some tags are wrong. i only know a few of those maps, but i checked the one i made, and i saw that it is classified as seafaring map, even if it is not. it is included both in the "large maps" and in the "small maps". also, i don't see why some maps are not included. the "anchor" map is not in the list, i used it a month ago and it worked perfectly. All tags are classified by human- they can be wrong I will check and correct mistakes
You mean Archipelago Sea? I assumed that it is seafaring. Probably my wrong assumption
I think that it is quite big map (144 x 144), but starting positions are very close to each other, plus there is not much space to live. So I classified it to both places. Am I wrong? Which classification should be for your map?
I don't include all the maps. About half of them are rejected. I was looking at all the maps and my sieve was about how starting positions are prepared for each player (natural resources), how is the look like (natural or cubic shapes?) and how good is the map in comparison to initial project. Of course all the thoughts are human like, not very scientific, so they can be wrong. So I wrote:
And:
Also:
So thank you for your feedback. I will delete your map from seafaring one. EDIT: your map is a bit different than I thought: starting positions aren't close to each other. So it isn't fast game any more. Edited: 2015-06-22, 01:48

I have a not-quite-finished branch where Seafaring tags will be added/deleted automatically when you save a map with the editor - any map with at least 2 port spaces will count as a seafaring map. https://code.launchpad.net/~widelands-dev/widelands/bug-1390793 I am having a problem with the table sorting for the file lists that I haven't been able to fix yet, so the branch hasn't been merged yet. Out of curiosity, what's Widelands' stance on importing maps from other games? I've been importing an Ogre Battle map by hand (level 2 map "Sharom", if you're curious), but obviously there's no reason to upload it here if the staff only wants completely original maps! Top Quote |

As I know, there was a mechanism which was importing maps from old settlers II, but they had do have special file extension https://wl.widelands.org/forum/topic/1471/?page=1#post-10746 And I know that few maps on this server are connected to other games. Old maps For example Settlers of Wlatan: https://wl.widelands.org/maps/settlers-of-wlatan/ is directly connected to Settlers of Catan. So yes, other games maps are welcome too einstein13 |

einstein13, nice idea and nice webpage! Of course there are alyways improvements possible (looking to some other people who just pointed out bad stuff about that...), but clearly the maps-section of the widelands homepage needs a change and you made a good start. I know this topic is a bit old, but I haven't seen it before. Top Quote |

Thank you for your words, dershrimp! I did that page for some reasons:
So I propose to make packages for people to download. The hardest things are:
Also that work can affect on basic maps package: we can choose some maps to add or remove from Widelands itself. I know that last 3 years lots of maps were created and only few of them are included. So instead of complaining I've created those packages + page. Now I am waiting for people to open the page and download maps. I will have some statistics which type of maps are most wanted and probably in the future they will be included in Widelands (some of them). I had some statistics (about 15 downloads), but after server failure I lost all of them. Hope in one year time I will get some einstein13 |

In my case, I already downloaded all maps that I want to play from the webpage and I am normally just playing on one computer. So no need to go to your page. But for other people it can be useful. Another point: I definitely think people should vote more on the maps they played. For some maps there are over 500 downloads and something like 3 votes max - and...are there really 500 peoples playing widelands? or do people download one map like 10 times? The huge numbers of downloads are puzzling me a bit. Edited: 2015-06-23, 21:48

After about one year break on my site, I've updated maps and made some statistics of download: Packages / number of downloads
I know that this is very little in comparison to widelands site downloads, but for me it is good to know which type of maps are most desired. Also I have to thank to all people who send me any message (pointed problems, bugs, sent me a map, ...) - it was great to hear any opinions from other players! einstein13 |
