Topic: Call for testing

The current website is running with a webframework called Django and uses Django version 1.3.7. This version is very old and not maintained anymore. So i have adjusted the code of the widelands website to work with Django 1.8. You might could imagine that jumping over several versions is a hard task when the code basis of the widelands website relies on over 1200 files... So this is why i need your help: There is a testsite setup where my adjustments could be tested. This test site uses a new database so most content is missing. Especially links from the main menu do mostly point to somewhere where content is missing (wikipages). The Links in the submenu of forums do not work (because the forums are missing), but the main menu "Forums" shows the forums i created. You have to create a new account for the alpha site if you want to test stuff where an account is needed (f.e. uploading maps, commenting). Please do not use the same password as for widelands.org on the test site. The test site could be found on http://alpha.widelands.org Thank you very much Edit: removed not working link Edited: 2016-07-02, 19:22

I want to point out that this version upgrade was a major undertaking and a hard problem to tackle. Thanks to kaputtnik for taking this unthankful task on and making a great job of it!!! Also, if you test the alpha page and you see no difference in behavior to the currently deployed page that is a good thing - and pretty close to magic kaputtnik, do you think it is worth a front site post for this as well to get some more attention for testers? I don't think so... maybe later on if we make a second test round. Pushing this thread so that is always on top of the "Latest Posts" box is attention enough Top Quote |

In the first test we found some bugs and solved them. So now it's time for a second test roundFor this test i activated the old database used by alpha.widelands.org and migrated it. If you have registrated an account for the first test, this account does not work anymore. But if you had a former account on alpha.widelands.org you could use this one. This test is the main test for migrating the old data. I would be very pleased if you could test again Top Quote |

The changes are merged now into the main trunk. This is the last chance for testing before the code of the productive website gets updated... Everyone is invited to test the changes again on alpha.widelands.org. As SirVer said: If you find nothing different it should be fine If everything is fine the productive website gets offline for some hours to get updated. I will inform you 1 Week before the update will happen Edited: 2016-07-02, 20:17

It was ever there Unfortunately it is not used a lot on widelands.org (last poll in year 2013) but making a poll when only a few users are expected to vote is useless imho... I've changed the news-section to show all news in a list. For comparison: widelands.org news vs. alpha.widelands.org news. This, and making the main logo changeable are the only differences btw. . Hello kapputnik, why is there a difference in the section "Wiki : Index" - "Complete files"? original site: There are 194 articles in this wiki New (alpha) site: There are 161 articles in this wiki I would not wonder if old sites where closed but a fast search inside the browser for the term '2016' gave me: original site: 37 hits new (alpha) site: 2 hits Greetings and thanks for the good work LAZA Edited: 2016-07-10, 00:18

Hi LAZA, The alpha site is running with an extra database and the content is quite old. F.e. the last entry in Forums before the update are from year 2013. So it is normal that there is a difference on the amount of Wiki articles. The alpha site (and the database) is only used for testing purposes and will be shut down again when wl.widelands.org is updated. Thanks for looking into it Top Quote |
