I felt like playing with the scout, so I came with this:

If you happen to be interested in it, I can provide Impulse Tracker music file or MIDI, as well as chords.

Maybe the lead instrument from this one with the guitar backdrop of the first version? One could also experiment with an added string backdrop.

My version is not a suggestion, I just picked two instruments and played with harmony and some other stuff. NonServiam uses more instruments and of better quality. If you like the lead instrument, it is pan flute and it generally fits better with optimistic music.

Well, thank you, ypopezios. I've never used Impulse Tracker and I'm not quite sure what it is?

Version 3:- http://www.mediafire.com/file/g177r5wb32e4bm5/Scotty_the_Scout_v3.ogg

Changelog: Re-eq'ed the guitar to make it less bright and twangy; replaced the acoustic bass with a paired cello and contrabass to give that added stringy backdrop.

Argh! No, scratch that last version. I've decided that I completely hate it.

Version 4:- http://www.mediafire.com/file/njwd5210jh8qjjw/Scotty_the_Scout_v4.ogg

Went back to version 2; calmed the guitar down a bit; added a completely different string track and some drums. Much happier now.

Agreed - Version 4 is much better.

Can you make the strings sound more like an orchestra? They are fighting the flute right now.

Version 5:- http://www.mediafire.com/file/mfw6624xp369pu7/Scotty_the_Scout_v5.ogg

Changelog:- Converted violin track into four violins, two violas, four cellos and a contrabass; gave them some reverb to simulate orchestral hall. Rebalanced volume on the other instruments to compensate, listened. Said "whoa, what the heck?!" Spotted my mistake. Rearranged all the instruments into a balanced semicircle such that not all the strings were playing in your left ear. Listened again, liked it.

Yes, we're getting there face-smile.png

I think the strings are too loud. Maybe add an extra high violin for the parts where the flute is not playing, and take the strings more into the background?
