Ships: Military: Trireme (at that first ship at Civ-like games...) (Empire, But what Barbiaans/atlantis? ) ( Carthagonians, Greeks and Romans for real/example) (or it is it too big?) other it is more liking Viking ships ( or are them at too small??) Merchant/civilized: in history, it will be at need some defend also... i dont know good ship names... only time period 1400-1700... and thats is see DIFERENT time scale!

And if can win ship (it sink/destored/damaged like Civ/colonization-like games)) (or can it winner take it own? (or items of it??)

military and seafaring will not be mixed. Widelands will not get more features in the military strategic aspects if I have a saying in this (of course this kinda is a democracy here); only the things absolutely needed to make ships work naturally in the game.

I agree with SirVer. The only military role of ships should be for the case of attacking an enemy settlement on a different island, to make island hopping game play feasible. Combat between ships just doesn't fit the game well.

Why do you want lots of ship styles?

I also agree that the only military use of ships should be to carry troops. I prefer the row boat method of Sett I, and think that boats in Widelands should mainly be used for carrying wares. Any progress on when boats will be working in an unofficial build?

I think the ships should act more like movable "military buildings" rather than ships. So, the battle system will be the same but will not be only a group of soldiers and the soldiers inside building but also between buildings. The ships will have boats in them. So, if the people you send is less than the people inside the ship, they will attack with boats. If people you select is equal to the people inside the ship then the whole ship ("military building") will attack. If you lose you lose the whole ship which cost wares but the boats doesn't cost anything because they are just group of soldiers as in ground battle. In this case, you MUST select which ship to attack which is one of the things that needs to be changed - selecting people in battle. Its going to be very complex system because you can choose two group of people (boats) from two different ships to send for attack. If you lose all the soldiers in one ship but not lose the battle you can recover ship if there are more than one people in your other ships. If you don't have more than one in other ships the ship will be a stationary building until someone will enter inside and the enemy cannot attack it as in ground battle. If you lose all your ships and lose the battle the other team takes the ships. So, the ships are never destroyed until you destroy them as you destroy ground buildings.
