Hello again, everyone; a couple years ago I lost two cats in a week for two different reasons (illness and cancer), and that led to me being temperamental and leaving Widelands over something trivial. But Widelands is Widelands, and it's just not the same being here. So (assuming you don't mind) I'm back, and while I'm a bit rusty with pov-ray, I'm more than willing to create some new buildings if you want me to.

Hi and welcome back!
I have not been around here long enough to have known you but I am more than happy to have you on board and making Widelands' graphics even better face-smile.png

I don't know which kind of graphics you specialise in. The most important graphics we lack are Barracks for Barbarians and Empire, and Ferry Yards for Barbarians, Empire and Atlanteans. Also many buildings of the three classical tribes lack Unoccupied and Working animations – enough to offer a broad range of choices what you'd like to work on face-smile.png

P.S. I am really sorry about your cats, I have cats myself and can't imagine how I would feel if something happened to them face-sad.png

Hmm, I thought I left after Ana and Josie passed away (September 2017), but apparently I left a year or so before it.

As luck would have it, I created the barracks for Atlanteans, so I think it's best that I work on new Barracks graphics for the Barbarians and Empire. ;) Do we have a link to the textures used in their current buildings?

And thank you for your sympathy.

Actually they don't really have current buildings – those are merely GIMP'ed out of the respective tribes' trainingscamp images. They need entirely new buildings, though I guess the trainingscamps' style would suit them well. The sources for those are in the media repo:

Hi and welcome back from my side as well.
I'd like to add that we lack spritesheets for a lot of buildings as well (empire and atlanteans buildings and workers at least)
I am not sure but maybe this is due to lost blender models for these tribes. If you were involved in atlanteans maybe you can help out on this side with some old copies as well.

At one point I snagged a copy of widelands during my time away (bzr8915, november 2018), so I'm not completely out of the loop. That said, for new buildings ideally I'd rather create new models from scratch (you've seen how half the Frisian buildings are nearly identical to each other, at least in the version I have).

Okay, I did some more work on the Empire barracks; I even fixed the main issue (all sides being identical in color). I know this is not 100% done, but I'd like to hear some comments on it.

large size

in game

Yes, I realize the colors don't perfectly match; I'll find a way to deal with that (or, if I can't get the ground close enough to be indistinguishable, I'll replace it). Finally, if this is too big, I can always move the long wall in to make it square.

That looks great!

Perhaps the tower could be a bit smaller, to look less like a militarysite's watch tower? Otherwise very good face-smile.png

Believe it or not, I already made it shorter by about half the tower's width! But I did think about making it even shorter, and I may do exactly that.

Okay, I shortened the tower and deepened the windows to match what we have. I also fiddled with the textures and colors a bit (a necessity, seeing as I use povray not blender). Finally, the yard looked too empty, so we have two training dummies -- but I still might add a road from entrance to the door.
