It looks like it is not possible to upload maps with add-ons. I think no one will use the world add-ons, if you have to create your own completely new map first.

People are encouraged to package add-on-requiring maps as Map Set add-ons because this offers much better dependency handling for the users.

Make sense. I wait until I have more maps and post them at once.

I don't think this makes sense. Some people are not very active but creating maps from time to time. Forcing them to create map-sets is a no-go, imho. This will lead into several (possible) good maps which are lying at a users home without ever being published.

Ok, map sets can also contain only one map face-grin.png

Well in 1.1 it will be possible for users to package their map as an add-on and directly upload it, all within Widelands, with a few clicks. That's easier than expecting them to figure out where their homedir is and how to compress their uncompressed map files without messing up the file extensions, imho face-smile.png

for the moment being we still have the possibility to upload maps on the homepage which might be the choice if no addon is requiored for the map. Else a mapset can be started with one map and be enriched with adding maps from time to time so I see no problem really.
As the addon feature is brand new please be patient and expect still some problems.

It's not the file extensions I don't understand. But how can I create zip-s where the files are in / ? (I think chroot would need too much setting up for this)

Just for info the addons-packager works quite well for map sets. I created the tournament map set with it.
