The second one really looks great.

An idea for variation is to use the logo not as a windows but as kind of mirror. That would mean to make it slightly chromy or silvery (I hope you understand, what I mean). I could image it like a mix of the two versions. I just don't know, if that's feasible and how it would look like. Could you give it a try?

Edit: explanation expanded

Two is the oddest prime.

Oh, I LIKE logo 2!! Definitely a +1 from me! face-smile.png
You said you were having difficulty setting up SSH for Launchpad. If that is still the case, you could post a link to the xcf and I could push it to the repository.
Now I'm going to look for good places where we could put it to use. face-wink.png

Ok I have now made a third logo like Venatrix suggested.

The additionel reflection on the "ground" is experimental and could be easily removed. What do you think of that? Is it a good idea?

Xcf and png files of all three logos are in the zip file.

Edit: The new logo and file is for a better possibility to compare in the last post.

I think the top of the 3rd one looks too grayish-stoneish; but the second is too noisy. I do not think the idea with the "window" works out too well. When I compare those three to the current white-yellow 2D one, I'd pick the old one. Could you try something along the line of the current logo but with your 3D look. I am unsure if it works out though. It would also be interesting to see those logos on different scales (we need everything from super tiny to super huge).

Your work is very much appreciated, keep it coming!

While your "Logo 3" is a masterful attempt to put Venatrix's idea into use, I agree with SirVer. A bit too gray and muted. I don't think we could generally use the "ground reflection", but it was good to see that option, too.
I wouldn't say "Logo 2" is too noisy, but we would be more limited with where it could be used effectively. I still think we can find a place(s) for it.
The gold version is certainly closer to (and I think it a definite improvement over) what is now used. I prefer its look of "brushed metal" over a more mirrored finish.
Because the gold logo can be put to use in more places, I favor it over "Logo 2" for use as a "standard" title.

I do admire your work and as SirVer says it "is very much appreciated". face-smile.png
Here is another idea for your consideration:
icon: icon128
Could you take a try at incorporating the color and style of the green "W" and reddish-brown "L" of the application icon shown above into the golden logo, replacing the letters "W" and "L" in the title with ones like those in the icon? and/or vice versa, create an image containing the icon and adding "ide" to the "W" and "ands" to the "L"?
Something to play around with. face-wink.png
Cheers

Edit: I've searched for an xcf of the icon in the media repository and can find none, so the png is the only source from which to work.

@fraang: That is not exactly what I was aiming for. I'll try to cobble some examples together to better explain. Hopefully have them posted here tomorrow.

Thanks for the try. face-smile.png
