I have just seen on Wideland's website's mainpage, that the release candidate for version 1.1 is out now! face-smile.png

First of all: Thanks to everyone who has contributed to that! face-smile.png

Second thought: Shall we then play the last round 5 of this test tournament with the new version? face-smile.png

Actually the release candidate is fully replay-compatible with the Tournament version. There have been no gameplay-technical changes. I played my game against Mars yesterday with the RC while he used the Tournament tag. So we can use both interchangeably, and it would definitely be appreciated to give the RC some testing face-smile.png

Note: Master is about to receive the first post-1.1 changes, so the latest development version and the daily PPA may soon not be compatible with the Tournament version and RC any more.

Yes. 1b75c42e33 belongs to the release-1.1 branch. So all commits up to and including this one are compatible, and future commits to the release branch (i.e., the final v1.1) will be compatible too (unless we find a new critical gamestate-changing bug that requires a backport).

On master, the latest commit just now is fb92af1, and there are two more PRs incoming later today. They too should still be compatible. However, using the new UI feature (more convenient worker evicting) when it's not available to all participants would be unfair, even if it's just a small feature. So master 86b9396 and newer should not be used for the tournament.

Normal trees will likely not grow on this map, only the spezial amazon trees will grow well. A pity for players who don't want to play amazons face-sad.png Maybe it's time for those players to learn to play an other tribe than empire face-grin.png

Thanks for clarifying face-smile.png

There are taiga fields scattered all over, and also some taiga regions, where some winter trees grow reasonably well. At most you need 2 foresters per lumberjack, or more like 3:2 or even 4:3 on pure taiga.

I've already played a training game:

Four Mountains foresters

to make it a bit more interesting I think about allowing custom start positions. Any opinions?

Actually the map is not very balanced and its not nice that trees grow that badly there

How can this map not be balanced? It is an open map and has 4 ressources on each side. If you speak about balance, you mean that units or building of the different tribes are not balanced. It is good that we have at least 1 open map.

Well, to overcome some imbalance of the starting positions with respect to the placement of the surrounding immovables, I thought about custom start positions. If we restrict them to the quadrant of the own starting position, would this be fair enough?

tree growth is equal for everybody and part of the challenge for this round, I believe.
