Hi!
As I understand it, there are two types of paths or roads in the game, those that link small buildings, the dirt roads, and those in front of larger buildings, the fancy ones.
After a seemingly random amount of time, dirt roads linking bigger buildings are upgraded into fancy roads.
now I have some questions about the details of this mechanism:
1.what triggers these upgrades?
2.why do some fancy roads go back to being dirt roads after a while?
3.what is the difference between these types roads?
4.what is the advantage of donkeys anyways?
5.is the usage of donkeys as carriers limited to fancy roads?
Thanks in advance for your kind answers ;)

When a road gets a lot of traffic, it turns from a "Normal" road into a "Busy" road. This road is shown with a different graphic and gets a carrier animal (also called the Second Carrier). The carrier animals are the only (and defining) difference between Normal and Busy roads. The regular carrier and the carrier animal both carry one ware each, independent of each other, so if there are many wares to be carried, a road with two carriers has twice the ware throughput per time as a road with just one carrier.

When a busy road has very low traffic, it eventually reverts to a Normal road and sends its second carrier away. Primary carriers are free, but Second carriers cost wares to create, so it is better to employ them only where they're needed. When a road gets traffic only rarely, having two carriers offers no advantage over having only one.

Internally, each road keeps a score called a Wallet. When a ware is transported across the road, the Wallet score is increased (with an extra bonus for the road leading up to a ware's destination building), and when it surpasses a High threshold, the road is Promoted to Busy. And the wallet score slowly drops continuously, and when it falls below a Low threshold, the road is Demoted to Normal. The minimum and maximum wallet scores are clamped at reasonable limits.

Well, before this thread I thought that donkeys can work on normal roads to rev up transportation, and that the number of donkeys we have somehow correlates with the number of busy-roads we have. also in that map my tree farms where far from my warehouses and I needed faster transportation of wares resulting in my cranking up the minimum number of donkeys allowed in my economy. XD

in defense of my sanity, I should mention that I didn't just jump from 10 to 100 in one go, I went step my step, adding 10 donkeys at a time...

Heh, the man with 100 donkeys shall forevermore be your nickname!

Funny too is that you actually must have had 100 PLUS whatever was on the roads. : )
