According to the number of players it seems Barbarians and Empire are the preferred tribes so far.

Here's my entry with Barbarians. I failed to execute my theoretical winning strategy (didn't even build the battle arena in time), and made many small mistakes too. face-sad.png

I think every player make small mistakes, probably except WorldSavior who knows every part of every tribe the best. In a normal game a player has the time to correct those little mistakes. This makes widelands an interesting game, imho.

And here's the one with Frisians. (My biggest mistake in this one was that I built an outpost for the port space too early. A not so obvious, but high impact mistake was when I pushed too many wares out of the HQ at once. They didn't look so many in the inventory... and I still don't quite understand why it caused such a big traffic jam when there was an alternate route. Unfortunately I couldn't create another. — Yes, I know such mistakes are part of the challenge. What I meant in the Barbarians post was that it had more than my usual amount of noticeable, but too small to list ones that increased the time too much for my liking.)

Happy new year everyone!

Well, that was just a first order approximation, and I specifically mentioned the buildcosts of warehouses as a factor. I've looked it up, and it turns out that Atlanteans can build both plain warehouses and ports the fastest.

What I didn't expect for Barbarians is how much the lack of gold delays them. Maybe if it's possible to mine 2 pieces of gold for the training camp from an empty mine fast enough, and prepare the soldiers to level 7 before proper gold production can be started, then they still can be the fastest.

I tried that strategy but somehow it doesnt work. Maybe the costs for the gold mine and the 40 rations are just not affordable...

I also didn't factor in that Atlanteans can build both training sites with the starting gold, and that the better parallel training also favours them.

This tournament is about a lot of details which one does not see at the start....

Haha, thank you. Maybe someone knows some tribe better than I do. And if I don't make mistakes I wonder how I can improve my own best times...

Wanted to save the world, then I got widetracked

Oh yes!

I've updated the results and added a "Previous Time" column. Hopefully i found all and did not make a mistake. In general one can say

  • Time more than 3 hrs: face-plain.png
  • Time less than 3 and more than 2 hrs: face-glasses.png
  • Time less than 2 hrs: face-shock.png

face-grin.png

Atlanteans with a time of 01:33:52 are the fastest, close after Barbarians with a time of 01:39:47. All other tribes need at least 10 minutes more, so far....
