I apologise if this post is in the wrong place, I loaded the widelands homepage to find out something and there are posts offering to sell drugs, hash etc? This is very concerning, maybe posts should be scanned for these things and quietly removed.I mention this because at the time I amd writting this post, there are 3 such adds listed in 'latest posts' , one under the english forum ( 8 hours OLD) , a similar one listed in the- add-ons forum ( also 8 hours old) and a similar one under game suggestions. I often load the page to catch up on new ideas , maps or tips and it worries me that there may be some kids that read those posts and get influenced by them. I don't mean to sound like a prudish person but surely there must be some way of stopping such posts from even appearing. As a grandfather, I take my grandchildren's or any child's safety seriously. I am luck that my grand kids are too young yet to read these types of posts, but I wonder if there are kids from 7 to 15 that read these posts.Such a good game like Widelands, and it's excellent forums shouldn't be banned for some twit's idea of a joke or misuse of the forums.

Hi Ron_of_Nord,

you can be sure that we try our best to prevent such posts. But fighting spam is an everlasting task and sometimes such posts are slipping through our mechanisms to fight them. It's like in the real world: You can have many policemen, but sometimes a crime happens nevertheless. For our forum you can be sure that at least after 12 hrs such slipped through posts will be found and removed.

We remove these spam posts as soon as we notice them. I totally agree that this stuff just shouldn't show up, and in fact we have spam filters in place that catch much of the spam, but no filter is perfect and sometimes things get through that then require manual intervention from a moderator. And since Widelands is entirely driven by a small-ish team of volunteers most of whom happen to be located in the same time zone, it can sometimes take several hours until someone notices and can remove the post.

If you know of some good automated spam filters that would be able to augment our existing ones without compromising user privacy and without requiring massive changes to implement, we're open to suggestions.

The alternative, if we want to ensure that nothing ever slips through, would be to require moderation for every new user's first several posts, which I would consider undesirable overkill.

Firstly I want to apologise if I seemed critical, I did not mean to be. I agree that no filter is perfect, even really sophisticated ones sometimes let something slip. I really appreciate the effort that you all do in this regard and I understand that not everything can be dealt with at once. I was shocked when I first read them, but since that time I have also considered the problem of spam, if I come across a better filter I will be sure to let you know. Keep up the great work, You have an awesome game here ! And I agree that we don't need any overkill...
