I know this might be out of the ball park, and I couldn't find it mentioned anywhere, but what about aerial scouts? Give them the ability to cross water but not mountains or lava and a reasonable range and they could add a whole different tactical line of playing. I'm not talking about them attacking other targets, land scouts don't, just have them fly around reporting what they see. I had similar idea with scout ships, but I have since used ships for that purpose. maybe something like a simple blimp, but not a balloon mainly because widelands doesnt support air currents, something that has the capability to steer and move through the air above buildings, units, water etc ?

I will make one clarification here, where I stated reporting what they see, I meant like scouts do , not using the messaging system.

Doesn't fit the tech level of the tribes.

Unless they are bird men? That'd be a neat new tribe.

Guys, it was just a thought., but now you mention it, a tribe that worships birds might not be a bad thing. Having osteriches as beasts of burden and chickens as livestock. As for flying , mmmm, maybe riding albatroses ?

Or better yet, training albatroses as aerial scouts ?

<Grin> Been there, done that. </Grin>

In Wesnoth I added albatrosses as a water crossing scout unit to a faction of... Avian birdmen. ; )

Yea, I have played wesnoth, but widelands these days takes up a lot of my game time, at the moment learning the Lua scripting side so I can finish off the campaign I'm working on. That and fighting wars against my wife and her amazons ( i'm sure she cheats <grin> )
