Hi Guys,

I went to load the widelands homepage and found it has changed. There are some small problems with it

  1. Point to the sub menu next to Forums and the Forums text is still visible between the news poll and poll arechive
  2. the white text on the light colour background is hard to read, the text should be a darker colour.
  3. Forums, development and thier associated sub menus can be listed by either the title or the submenu..( is this a design feature? )
  4. the page is displayed all over the place with no apparent order.I am using Firefox (latest version) and I've had to scroll about a lot to find things
  5. Log in & lateest posts are appearing on the bottom of the page, not on the right like the old page

I'm not having a whinge, If this is the new layout I'll have to get used to it but when it loaded I thought the page hadn't loaded correctly. I note this because it's a lot ahrder to read with my old eyes.

edit: janus make it more readable

Long story short: If the page doesn't look like before, please clean the browsers cache or press STRG+F5 to reload the page. This might be needed for all sub pages also.

Yes, there was i big update of the website recently. I will write a post (news) for this. Since the update happened close to midnight (locally) i was too tired to write this news yesterday.

After reloading the stylesheet, I can no longer see a difference between visited and non-visited links. All links now appear in the colour of unvisited links face-sad.png

The latest posts sidebar also appears a bit cramped with its smaller size now (using a big screen).

Sorry for nitpicking, I appreciate how much effort you put into mobile compatibility face-smile.png

There are two places where the font color has changed, mainly trying to make it more readable for vision impaired people (trying to fix Webdesign lacks contrast):

  1. The headers on dark background are now a bit brighter
  2. Links and visited links

It is very hard to find a color for links and visited links with good contrast, especially on the bright wooden background. For now visited links are a bit darker than non visited links. You might need to get familiar with those colors, but changing them is no problem at all… we should just find good colors.

The size (width) is exactly as it was before. Maybe the space between each row is a bit smaller?

If one is used to "some thing" and this "some thing" get changed, also only minimal, there will be always complains about the change face-wink.png

Well the difference is now imperceptible. The colour for visited links is FEEA8A and for non-visited links it is FEFB8A which are just two ever-so-subtly different shades of off-yellow. The difference is only perceptible to me at all if I peer at them really closely… It also depends on the calibration of the monitor you're using and the display technology.

I agree finding good colours is hard…
How about F2F0AA for non-visited and FFE673 for visited links? These are slightly more saturated resp. desaturated versions of the same colours that IMO would have just enough contrast to be not too hard to see.

P.S. The improved green colour for headers is great face-smile.png

Of course you didn't know, my fault face-sad.png And sorry for the inconvenience!

Regarding the link colors: Maybe we should just make the wooden background a bit darker? This should help to find good colors, imho. After implementing the current colors, i found the color for normal (not visited) links a bit to harsh, but in the meantime i get used to them and see the difference to visited links, although i agree that the difference is maybe not enough.

What do other think about the colors?

I attach no blame to the problem I had, I just didnt't know what was going wrong at the time. I find the current colour scheme for the main page to be fine, and when I last tried, the mobile page looked great on my phone and tablet. The phone/tablet doesn't have the overtype problem my laptop had. I'm not 100 % sure what happened there, but it works properly now so no worries. Great work guys !
