While displaying the idle image with the column vertical as in your screenshot helps to make it identifiable as a column, it makes for an awkward transport by the carrier. In as much as we can't change the position of the carrier's hands depending on the ware, I think that I would prefer to see it in a nearly horizontal attitude that would allow it to be carried overhead. But maybe straight horizontal is better than nearly horizontal? It may look as if the carrier had it placed on his shoulder.
