I have created a rendered cursor. Feedback is welcome. What do think of it?

You're pretty good with your hands. I like the flesh coloring, it would actually stand out better like that.

Not a huge fan, to be honest. The hand seems to be a little fat (or rather wide) and the skin color somewhat freaks me out - it is so ghoulish, it seems so real. As if someone really had his hand cut off and now we use it as a cursor. How about going for a leather glove (that is what I am thinking the current cursor is) or maybe we should abandon this hand concept all together - the idea is stolen from s2 iirc.

I admire your blender skills though - modeling a hand is surely not easy.

I concur with SirVer. Not about the width of the hand, that seems right, it’s just another angle as the old one, but with the colour. The shape of the wrist end does already look like it’s really a glove, so why not only change the colour to resemble a leather glove? Could be worth a try.

The new cursor looks larger than the old one, maybe because a large part of it is very uniform. It's more or less the same colour, with only little shades, except for the edge. The old cursor is more structured, which I like better.

fraang, can you post that latest graphic (with the sleeve) in a size approximating what it would be in the game (assuming of course you don't intend that 400x300 image itself as a new cursor.) face-grin.png

I see little people.

With the sleeve, we are back to the cut-off hand (for me), also the fading out effect will look strange in the game - fading out into more nothingness. I still prefer the hand drawn one.

The brown blends in too much with the GUI though.

I want to do a little poll here to get an idea in what direction we as the Widelands community want to go:

1) Do you want to stick with the hand/glove concept for the cursor?

If you don't:

2) What other concept would you like?

Btw:

Here is comparison between the original S2 cursor and the Widelands cursor:
