I think its a great idea launch Widelands on Steam. It will attract a lot of players and it would help in the game development like translation, sharing and suggestions.

You can see how to send Widelands to Steam Greenlight here: http://steamcommunity.com/workshop/browse/?appid=765&browsesort=torate&browsefilter=torate&p=1

I doubt that this is legally possible, but IANAL of course.

A similar suggestion for Wesnoth came to the same conculusion. So not a possibility.

If Widelands got on Steam, i immediatly stop to play it. Steam is pure shit, full of DRM. I spit on Steam games and will never promote them.

Another problem with Steam is that they only show the languages that they support in their user interface. So, they just don't show that translations are available for a game for any other language. I translated a game that is available via the Humble Bundle folks and on Steam - Steam doesn't list my language. I didn't want to pay for it again though just to find out if they still let you pick all available languages for the game once you have installed it, or if they actually kick them out.

I have contacted Valve about this twice asking for help, and got no reply.
