What if... we used Grooveshark or other equivalent service for music in Widelands? An example of music that could be appropriate for Widelands could be: http://listen.grooveshark.com/#/s/Alle+stamenge+donne/1dKJWH

To start the music, Widelands could simply open the url, which would start the standard browser with Grooveshark. We should just create a playlist and link to it.

What do you think?

widelands isn't an online game. widelands is a game with an multiplayer option (not even necessarily internet, lan works too)

if all it is is opening a url in a browser you could always do that yourself and start widelands with a --nosound option.

I is very impolite from a program to open a URL unasked. Besides, as dwarik said, this can be done by everybody individually, no need for widelands to add any such feature. Feel free to create such a playlist and advocate it here in the forums if you feel like it.

I did not specify that the url should be opened unasked, it is a good idea to ask the user whether he wants to play the official Widelands playlist. Of course this option should not be available if the person is not connected to the internet. In those cases, we could simply keep the current music.

We will keep the current music because it fits the style and it was made with a lot of sweat by devoted contributors. Opening some streaming sources is easy enough to do, we won't add such a feature.
