Yes, the match was very spectacular. But there is something what bothers me: Luck was a very important aspect. When it looked already like a safe win for me, you had a lot of luck, five of my heroes died in that game phase while only one of yours did so. This luck outweights the one which I had in the other hero-fights. So I think that I prefer matches where the law of large numbers prevents that.

Yes, I've been considering it, and I came to the conclusion that it's a problem with the game design.

the combat mechanics support training a few powerful soldiers instead of many weak ones. changing that would make training pointless, so we won't want to change much there.

but then it means that in fast contact maps, both sides will have a small number of heroes facing off. and so, when two of them fight, luck decides the game. you winning the early fights forced me to give up much land, when if i won i could have pushed you back. me winning later turned a safe win into a contested game again.

But I can't really think of a way to change that. or even if we want to change that. this topic deserves its own discussion.

We stopped after the second disconnect, looks like either OSX or Widelands has Probems in case the IPv6 Adress changes.

I watched the game mars vs. tando for about 2 hours, mars had more land, whereas tando had more trees and a stronger army. We see some spectacullar encounters of Heros. But neither of them was able to effectivly used his powers. I wish I had time to make some explanatory videos from these games (how not to do some things ;-). Good luck to both of them

Thank you for the game tando.

We both had problems with the map, but I was able to destroy his gold mine quite early. We had a lot a forth and back on both borders and although he was much faster in training his soldiers, I was somehow able to keep him away from gold and protect a larger area of the map.

However, the map is great for 1vs1 games.

You could also make two videos:

  • how not to do it: mars - tando
  • how to do it: worldsavior - king of nowhere

At the other hand, this doesn't seem to be the best strategy on "very fast contact maps" like Crater. There one often doesn't have enough time to train a hero.

and so, when two of them fight, luck decides the game. you winning the early fights forced me to give up much land, when if i won i could have pushed you back. me winning later turned a safe win into a contested game again.

Or maybe the game is less about luck than we think: One can try to let the opposite heroes fight with some rookies before they fight the heroes, so it might be more about skill...
