We could use this branch in the next round: https://codeberg.org/wl/widelands/pulls/4509
It has some tweaks around ship strength soldier bonus, and the change that refitting now costs wares. There was agreement that warships need to become more expensive to use but no real consensus on the details, so this would provide much-needed feedback. (Which in turn would unstall development face-smile.png )

If it's necessary to play with that branch - will there be installers of it, and if yes, when?

Is anybody for waiting some more weeks before continuing the tournament?

I think Nordfriese can provide some installers.

Generally i think the naval warefare functionality is working very well right now and there is no need to have a perfect naval warefare functionality in the next official release. Maybe there can be an additional entry in the configure economy menu, something like "forbid naval warefare" or something like that before the next official release will become official.

I think the next official release should be scheduled until next christmas, regardless if naval warefare is perfect.

I am afk for the next 2 weeks. (Holiday finally) but feel free to continue. I think the suggestion of @Nordfriese to use his branch should be ok. Maybe it might be possible to have the Amazon balancing changes in there.
I would appreciate if the next round might take until first week of November so I might have a chance to play as well.

Sorry for the delay caused by my absence the last weeks.

I'd like to organize the round. My suggestions:

  • deadline to start the match is 29th October. Deadline to complete is one week later.
  • the version is the same as the version of round 3, but if both players want, they can also play a version suggested by Nordfriese.
  • hessenfarmer, as you don't have time you can play your match later, if you want. Though, if you don't play before the deadline, the pairing of the next round could be made just like in the case when you lost
  • I could also imagine to take a closer look at the map suggestions, so I could chose the final map

Can we continue like this? hessenfarmer?

I have moved the tag and updated the installers in post #4. I strongly recommend using this one for round 4 since it contains the amazon balancing changes.
I am not providing installers for the refit costs branch.

Carli and I Intented to play at nex Friday 2023-10-27 19:00 CEST we both can compile the version ourself but we have not decided exactly which branch / version / tag to used. I would go with the main naval branch origin/protected/navalwarfare for now, but I lost track about the discussions. As neither of us plays Amazones (Carli correct me on that one) We will not be affected by any changes affecting them.

I have some vacation for two weeks now but the open slots are already dwindeling.

Ok guys. Hessenfarmer wrote he is afk, so its not surprising that he doesn't answer.

kaputtnik allowed me to edit posts, so I'm organizing this round now. The deadline to start the match this round is october 29th (except for hessenfarmer who told that he doesn't have time), deadline to complete it is one week later.

Also, I thought about versions, but for some reasons I don't change my mind: The version is the same as the version of round 3, but if both players want, they can also play the version suggested by Nordfriese.

Sorry Nordfriese, but some players prepared to play amazons on this map for weeks now. We can't just force them to play the changed version. However, I don't mind it at all if we play that version in round 5.

Whoever doesn't have time to play can protest, as it's rather surprising that the tournament continues now.

World and me played with an old version, while loading the "could not find a mirror battle" message appeared, probably because we played an older Version, which is full of mistakes; so I really agree to Nordfrieses suggestion to play with the newest Version.
